 Educational Requirements

  • MD in critical care Medicine/MD in Anesthesia/DA

 Job Responsibilities

  • Perform an appropriately directed and thorough clinical history of critical patients on their unit.
  • Perform an appropriately directed and thorough physical examination of critical patients.
  • Assess the condition of patients on their Critically ill patients in ICU areas
  • Review laboratory data and results of other studies of patients on their service.
  • Communicate clinical findings effectively to senior Medical officer and Registrar.
  • Initiate management for the patient’s condition writing the appropriate orders in the patient’s medical records having discussed the patient’s case with senior residents, registrars and primary consultants.
  • Following up on results of therapeutic interventions and diagnostic studies.
  • Documenting appropriately in the patient’s chart the initial History and Physical Exam, daily progress notes, event notes and procedure notes.
  • Completion of forms related to patient care including transfer forms, time out forms death certificates and SBAR
  • Pre-round on patients on the unit prior to clinical rounds with the registrar and developing an assessment of the patient’s condition and a diagnostic and therapeutic plan.
  • Perform procedures NG tube insertion, Catheter insertion and assisting registrar and consultant ICU on insertion of CV line patients

 Additional Job Responsibilities

  • Assessment of patients on admission, detailed history taking and Physical examination and documentation with in time frame and provide guidance to nurses.
  • Responsible for sending the patient for the appropriate investigation as directed by the primary consultant and also to authorize investigations, which are urgent.
  • Responsible for providing adequate treatment to the patient as advised and to check the dosage, frequency, route of administrations of all medications, considering all precautions.
  • Continually monitor and review patient progress and adjust the management plan when necessary and to take appropriate initiatives in Medical and surgical emergencies when required.
  • Preparation of discharge summaries well in time and briefing the patient about the medications on discharge.
  • Follow hospital practices and demonstrate initiative aligned to ensuring the safest possible environment for patients and staff.
  • To attend all clinical meetings and work shops and actively participate in paper presentations.
  • To be part of training programs conducted in the hospital and to take continuous initiatives for knowledge and skill up gradation.
  • To be involved in teaching programs that is held by the department
  • To oversee the activities of the Residents and guide them
  • To be an active member for the quality initiatives of the department
